This is a question I hear a lot. So, I decided to answer it here.

There are plenty of good hard copy dictionaries, but, more and more, I find myself using online dictionaries so I can always have access to them.

I like the following four in particular for different reasons.

Word Reference : I use this one to look up word translations and I like the variety of translation options it gives me. I also like the forums associated with each word.

Dictionary.com : I use this one as a monolingual dictionary to look up English definitions and synonyms. I also enjoy their blog.

Macmillan online : I use this one to learn just that little bit extra about words and about English language curiosities.

Urban Dictionary : I use this one to learn about new fun colloquial expressions.
