Would you like to get a Ph.D in being a Little Monster? Maybe a Doctorate in meat dresses? Well…you can’t go that far, but you can take a course in Lady Gaga.
Seriously.
Perez Hilton breaks it down.
“We would NEVER skip this class!
University of South Carolina sociology professor Mathieu Deflem is awesome will teach a course next semester with the following title — Lady Gaga and the Sociology of Fame.”
HLN reports the course will likely be pretty tough due to Professor Superfan Deflem.
…but they also say the idea of a celebrity based college course is not a new idea.
ANCHOR: “The University of Iowa offers an Anthology of Elvis course, UCLA and USC offer classes on The Beatles…you know The Beatles and Elvis are music icons, so Brother Fred, does this mean Lady Gaga has achieved icon status?”
BROTHER FRED: “Well I don’t think there’s any question about that, I wonder if there’s going to be any kind of meat cutting course…”
Professor Deflem usually teaches Criminology and Sociology of Law, which led WACH to question…why Gaga?
DEFLEM: “I kinda felt it was time to do something else for a change.”
SARA HARRIS: “Deflem admits he’s a huge fan of Gaga, having traveled the world meeting the artist. Deflem has been to 28 of Gaga’s concerts and has even built a fansite devoted to the icon.”
So if you find yourself stressing over how to make a meat dress for your midterm, don’t be surprised. The Toronto Star reports Deflem wants everyone to join in the Love Game, so the class is open to anyone…
“There are no pre-reqs, other than having ‘‘a sufficient dedication in the subject matter.’ Again, that means thinking Gaga is awesome.’”
But not everyone’s in love with the idea. Here’s what people had to say about the course on GameBattles … a resounding ‘it’s ludicrous’…
“By the time most of the people that like her are old enough to attend college she’ll be Granny Gaga.”
“…the idea of this class is stupid, she hasn’t done anything for music..mainstream music is ridiculous.”
…but what do you think? Could the class be tough and meaty? Or would you like to pile your plate with a Gaga course? You tell us.
